The goal of the SFI Advisors office was to architecturally preserve the culture and history of this sector of the City of Buford, and our intent was to do so while also updating the design of the building to one which fits into today's class of modern buildings.

The Existing Building

As with all restoration projects, the final design is ultimately guided by the initial conditions of the existing building. Originally built in 1950, the existing structure features a brick-finished CMU core. As seen in the image below, years of weathering have resulted in a unique look to the facade. When making substantial changes to the openings of the building, we made sure to utilize as much of the existing exterior as possible in order to maintain the original intent of the building.

Construction Drawings

From the very beginning of my time at Lawrence Design group, I always pushed for the use of Autodesk Revit for projects as I feel it necessitates a certain standard of detail which traditional non-BIM softwares do not typically require of the user. After experimenting with smaller renovation projects, this one was my opportunity to really utilize Revit to its fullest capabilities. While working on this project, I was simultaneously crafting a modern version of LDG's drafting standards through the development of a new standard template for Revit. Overall, it was an amazing learning experience for me, and the advancements that were made through the tools provided by Revit allowed me to devlop an efficient workflow that yeilds high quality results in the construction documents. Below are some excerpts from the final construction drawing set which I found particularly appealing.
